The travel pass is the recommended ticket for those who travel frequently over a certain period of time, as discounts are given compared to the full transport fare.
Paid passes are issued in digital format only, either on a transport card or as a dynamic QR code associated with a mobile phone, with a 30-day notice.
Passes allow making a number of trips by trains in traffic, during the validity period, at class and rank of the train established when purchasing, or at class / train of a lower rank, without the obligation to book a seat in case of choosing trains with a mandatory reservation system, except for the trip with non-folding bicycle in special bicycle cars, in which case payment of the seat reservation fee is mandatory.
IMPORTANT!
Until the software applications are adjusted, CFR Călători will issue only 2nd class passes (monthly, valid for 5 and 14 consecutive days respectively), for all train ranks.

Where can I buy the travel pass?
1. any railway station or CFR Călători travel agency, only through the xSell electronic issuance system, during their working hours:
- in digital format – on Card Transport;
2. kiosk ticket machines;
- in digital format – on Card Transport;
3. online from www.cfrcalatori.ro site:
- in digital format – on Card Transport;
4. through the CFR Calatori online ticket downloadable phone application:
- in digital format (dynamic QR code), including monthly passes for pupils and students
- in digital format – on Card Transport.
Checking on board the train
– Passes are nominal and non-transferable tickets
– They are valid on the train only with the identity document (ID, passport, residence permit, driver’s license) in original.
– Student passes are valid on the train only when accompanied by the identity document (ID, passport, residence permit, driver’s license or original birth certificate/copy for persons under 14) in original. Instead of the identity document, the original student card/identity card is accepted only if it has a photo and personal number.
– Student passes are valid on the train only with the original student ID card for discount/free transport for the current academic year.
– When checking the legality of the train journey, the pass is submitted as follows:
- the Transport Card, in original – for those issued in digital format on this type;
- dynamic QR code on the phone – for those issued digitally through the downloadable app on the phone.
– Any inconsistency will be treated according to the regulations in force.
Important to know!
NEW! The purchased passes for Interregio train are valid (for the commercial class established at purchase) including for the Intercity train journey WITHOUT paying the fare differences.
Travel passes are issued at ticket offices only based on an identity document (ID/passport/residence permit/driver’s license) and an application filled by passengers.
When purchasing digital passes on a card type (called “Transport Card”), the application is filled only at the first request to issue the card, after which it is no longer necessary to fill in another application.
Digital card-based passes can be purchased (for Transport Card holders) through all sales channels (ticket offices, CFR Călători machines, online on the website or through the downloadable application).
Travel passes do NOT give the right to travel on a detour that falls within a higher mileage area (they do not entitle route difference).
For 1st class journey with valid 2nd class passes (on the train rank for which they are valid), full payment of the class difference and the seat reservation ticket on trains with a reservation system is mandatory.
Passes valid for Regio trains give the right to travel by a higher class train (InterRegio-IR or InterCity-IC), subject to available seats, as follows:
- at the same class for which they were issued – with the payment of rank differences (IR or IC, as the case may be) and the corresponding reservation fee;
- at higher class (from 2nd class to 1st class) – with the payment of the difference in class plus the difference in rank (IR or IC, as the case may be) and the corresponding reservation fee;
If a pass data is requested to be changed, it will be returned and a new pass will be issued/purchased.
In the case of lost passes issued in physical format – on cardboard, duplicates will not be issued, replaced or refunded.
In case of loss/theft of a “Transport Card”, it is replaced by another card, paying the sales fee for the card. When replacing the carrier card type, all digital passes still valid at that time are automatically transferred to the new card.

Rechargeable transport card for your pass
Passengers who buy monthly passes can also choose to charge them at ticket offices, in digital format, on a Transport Card type.
Transport Card holders can buy online monthly passes on the website www.cfrcalatori.ro or via CFR Calatori online tickets phone app.
1. Where can I get a Transport Card and what are the benefits?
• Transport Card is issued for a fully paid fee, based on a request filled in by the passenger at the ticket offices of CFR Călători stations and travel agencies, only for the purchase of “pass-type” tickets.
• For a passenger holding a Transport Card, digital passes (charging a pass on a card), as well as tariff differences (class difference and/or reservation ticket) will be issued at any counter or ticket vending machine belonging to CFR Călători (Kioșk).
• For passengers holding a Transport Card, it is no longer necessary to fill in a request to recharge monthly passes.
• To recharge passes on a card from CFR Calatori vending machines, passengers must enter both the card series and the social security number and the system will check the validity of the transport card and the correspondence of the card series and social security number.
• In case of loss/theft or damage to the Transport Card, it can be replaced for a fee, paying the issuing fee.
Careful! When replacing the card, all digital passes still valid at that time are automatically transferred to the new one.

3. How to refund passes charged on the Transport Card?
a. Partial refund (during the validity period of the pass) is made at the issuing unit based on a request filled in by the passenger, automatically withholding commissions and related fees.
b. Total refund, before the first day of validity, can be made at any unit.
c. For digital passes, issued online on the website or through the phone app “CFR Călători bilete online”, the request for refund is made only online from the user account and the refund of the amounts due is made directly to the bank account card used to purchase the pass.
4. How is the ticket checked on board by the train staff?
• Transport cards are automatically recognized by the mobile device of the train staff at the time of scanning.
• After scanning a transport card with a valid pass, the information related to the type of the pass, route, validity period will be displayed, as well as the customer’s identification data to be compared with those of the identity document.
5. What is the price of issuing the Transport Card and its validity?
The price is 5 lei and is valid for 4 years.
